Showcasing some of the magnificent work by Peter Mohrbacher on the Angelarium project (An Encylopedia of Angels). This fantasy work pulls people in and resonates on a deeply emotional level.
Angelarium
Encyclopedia of Angels created by Peter Mohrbacher
The work of Peter M. is not only jaw dropping in its ability to pull your imagination into a fantastical realm but it’s also beautifully crafted. Peter has spoken on many occassions that the value of art lies in its emotional content, and this belief is very clearly reflected in his own work. He is able to achieve a deep connection with his audience by pouring himself into his artwork.
The encyclopedia currently has four sections; The Emanations, The Watchers, The Seraphim and The Zodiac. I have selected some of my personal favorites to show off here, but make sure to go see his full collections at Angelarium.Net
The genesis of the Angelarium project started when Peter came across a list of Angel names that captured his imagination. This was the beginning of a deep obsession to personify different parts of the human experience within these angels. Taking a little bit of inspiration from the animated show Evangelion, mixed with the love of nature (and especially clouds) and stir in the technical abilities of an oil painter and you get the stunning work of Angelarium.
Peter’s work within the realm of fantasy artists is unique as it is, but it is even more impressive once you layer on top the fact that he is creating the project solely from the direct support of his audience. With an insatiable curiosity for business and entrepreneurship, Peter has taken full advantage of the business models that have emerged through the growth of the internet.
He doesnt keep any secrets on how to achieve success either, with Co-host Samuel Flegal (Creator of Fateful Signs) they openly share their strategy and new discoveries on One Fantastic Week. Their Youtube Channel is a vast resource for any artist that wants to achieve both financial and creative freedom. If you are an artist looking to learn more about buisness and finding creative vision, I highly recommend checking out their Mentorship and Hostful episodes.
I own prints of the first two and really wish I had prints of the last three. Like many independent artists, Peter uses a limited edition print model for his work; This means thats if you dont jump on the sale of print before it sells out, you wont ever get that print again. If you see artwork by an artist that you like and there are prints available, consider buying it before you end up regretting it for a long period of time like I do everytime I see these pieces.
This is a timelapse video of my digital painting process in photoshop. This video represents the early parts of the painting where I'm working out values, composition, color palette and the overall concept of the piece. There is a lot of experimentation that happens at this point, so you can see a lot of major aspects of the painting change very quickly.
