Sketching Challenge!
The rules for this drawing challenge are the following:
Keep drawing for 10 minutes; Use the video above to help you stay focused for the time period
Dont draw any characters or faces; play with shapes and lines, try to keep it abstract
Tools
I recommend using a pencil or whatever tools you have nearby. These exercises dont require any special tools, use the paper or sketchbook that you have closest to you. You can also use the free PDF worksheet above, but that is optional!
The Goal
The main goal with this beginner drawing challenge is to help you become deeply aware of the sensations of drawing. This type of focus can make the drawing journey much more satisfying and fun.
Follow along with the video and feel free to apply this type of thinking into all your drawing practice. Approach your sketching with curiosity, ask yourself questions about what you are experiencing.
Mental Noting
One thing I have found very helpful when doing this practice is to take mental notes of what is happening. I will describe the experience to myself as if I'm describing to another person.
“Now I can feel my pencil gliding across the paper, it's a very satisfying feeling. I'm noticing that ideas of what to draw keep popping into my head”.
As a beginner artist this can be a great exercise because it helps ground your drawing experience. It will make it much easier to fully be present with what you are drawing
